"The Russell" and Western Art Week in Great Falls, Montana

Posted

I have been painting away these past few months, in anticipation of the multitudes of festivities during Western Art Week in Great Falls, Montana. I am looking forward to displaying this new body of work in 2 venues there! One will be "'The Russell': An Exhibition and Sale to benefit the C.M. Russell Museum", in my booth display as one of the Russell Skull Society of Artists. The Artist Suites will be on display at the Mansfield Convention Center, March 19-21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and this exhibition is free to the public! There will be live music and a full schedule of performances held there, in addition to the artists displays of new works. I am very honored to be included in this group of artists that are featured by the C.M. Russell Museum as the Russell Skull Society of Artists. I will have over 30 new works on display, that are the fruits of my creative labors over these past winter months.

I have done several of my more colorful works, including a group of new Shaman pieces in my ongoing Animal Shamans series. I have also been working on a series of several smaller landscape pieces that will be included in my Russell Skull Society display, in celebration of the extraordinary trips we have enjoyed along Montana's backroads. These landscape works were done mainly with a palette knife, and an occasional brushstroke! This is one of my favorites from this new group, called "Winter Moon Over Wolf Creek"

I have been enjoying exploring painting the horses in my ongoing black and white "Cavallo" series, and will have several new pieces to show in my exhibit. This style is a form of meditation for me, and my efforts to communicate their exquisite forms in a more emotional release. I love painting the feeling, and expressions in the physics, of "motion" in these horses.

I look forward to exhibiting my new works in the "Russell Skull Society of Artists" at the Mansfield Convention Center, and hope to see you there!

I will also be participating in, and painting at, the lively "Art in Action" Quick-Finish event at the Meadowlark Country Club, Friday, March 20th. This event benefits the C.M. Russell Museum, and is always a great time! For more information or tickets, please contact the C.M. Russell Museum! Many thanks to photographer Darrin Schreder for sharing this photo of last year's Quick Finish event with me!

My Live Auction piece in the C.M. Russell Museum's Saturday, March 21st, evening's auction is called "Crow Sky", a 48" x 72" oil on canvas. I have grown up in Montana near the Crow Tribe, and this work is done in honor of their people, their traditions, and one of their annual celebrations,"Crow Fair".

I am very honored to be represented by Samarah Fine Art, with several new works exhibited in their gallery showroom at the Out West Art Show and Sale, during Western Art Week, as well! This extraordinary show will be held March 18-21, at the Best Western Heritage Inn in Great Falls. There will be 110 Exhibit Rooms, including over 10 premier Gallery Showrooms, and over 140 exhibiting artists at this stellar show, in addition to a Quick Finish and Live Auction, live music, the "Young Masters" Art Program, daily painting demonstrations.....the list for reasons to come and enjoy all that this event entails is long! Several of my new works will be included in the Samarah Fine Art Showroom, and they will be holding artists receptions, all free to the public, both Friday and Saturday afternoons, from 3 pm to 5 p.m. A very special book signing by Kevin Red Star (also a Russell Skull Society Artist), will also be held during this Saturday reception, so I know I'm going to be standing in line to buy my signed copies!!

The Out West Art Show and Sale is another Western Art Week event, in a long line of great shows and events held there, that should not be missed! Art lovers from across the country gather here once a year to celebrate western art, as well as the heritage and rich history of the West as recorded and painted by C.M. Russell and so many other artists who are passionate about preserving its' legacy, during this very special week each year. We hope to see you all in Great Falls!
