I turned 50 years old in 2012. I had wanted to do a self-portrait for some time, and felt that this milestone in my life would be a good point at which to do one. I wanted to show how the passage of time....the carvings, scrapes, and scratches, as well as the kinder, gentler buffing created from traveling along the path of the first 50 years of my life....have begun to uncover the layers from within me that I feel simply become more colorful as they are revealed.
